The Playboy slot machine is named after a magazine which is well known to most representatives of the strong half of humanity. The game from Microgaming gives not only winnings with multipliers of up to 1000 per round but also a meeting with charming models. Press Play (“Press Play – Big Cash Prizes”) is a mobile app for iOS where you enter drawings to win gift cards or cash. The drawing system works like virtual scratchers, but rather than symbols and numbers, you pick five emojis. If you match all five of them, you win.

What’s Press Play?

I wrote this review for Press Play after being a regular user for about a 3 months now. I’ve cashed out twice (and got paid) so I do have some experience with the app.

I went away during the summer as the country reopened and I maxed out artifacts during the Slots beta, but came back at the end of September on hearing news about the Portals promo. It'll be just over $300 in cash and gift cards total once I get my final cashout. Thanks again, Press Play.

Let’s dive in to the nitty-gritty.

Details

  • Type: Mobile app
  • Platforms: iOS (no Android)
  • Price: Free (with ads)
  • Registration required: Yes (email, phone verification, Apple ID)
  • Earning potential: $0-$10,000 per month
  • Realistic earning average: $5-25 per month
  • Time commitment: 1 minute per day
  • Estimated earnings per hour: $30 per hour (based on two month’s earnings)

Pros

  • Requires very little time each day
  • Potential for huge payouts
  • Options to choose gift cards or cash by check
  • Easy beer money at the end of the month
  • Pays monthly
  • Earn leaderboard points just by matching emojis

Cons

  • You can’t “milk” this app as you can only play a limited amount daily
  • Low odds of getting a huge prize
  • Requires a driver’s license for age verification for ANY amount you earn
  • Requires SSN and other personal details for earnings over $600 (this is required by law)

Overall score: 7/10 (Decent)

Given that the app barely requires any time to play and the potential to get some decent beer money, there’s no reason not to spare a few minutes each day.

Other notes: Press Play requires you to scan your driver’s license to prove your age, according to their app description. They also need to collect your SSN and personal details when you win over $600. This has caused some suspicion for players in the app reviews.

How much can you make?

Press Play is a randomized app based on a lottery system. There’s no real way to “game” the system as it has very limited variables that you can control. The only strategic moves you can actually make are choosing how many tickets to enter, when to enter, and choosing ticket multipliers.

The app has four different ways to win:

  • Daily drawing
  • Weekly drawing
  • Monthly drawing
  • Leaderboard rank

Each drawing has a different prize amount tied to it changes from time to time.

When I first started playing, the daily drawing increased by $1 every day. But the developers have since changed it to a flat $100 per day.

You can enter up to 5 tickets daily, but you can claim 10 “bonus” tickets by watching an ad. The app has changed a few times as they tested different formats. But at the time of this writing, the above is true.

The tickets are chosen at random so you can’t pick your emojis (you used to be able to). The system randomly chooses emojis for you, but you can choose which ones you want to use a “Multiplier” on.

For every ticket you enter, you can choose one to apply the multiplier card to.

This lets you double the points you earn from it on the leaderboard. So one match is worth two points, rather than one.

You can spread out your tickets to distribute for each of the 5 drawings a day, or you can enter them all at once. The choice is yours.

The weekly and monthly tickets are “earned” by playing your daily tickets.

So basically, the more you play, the more tickets you have, and the more entries you have. Play every single ticket to maximize your chances to earn prizes.

If you match all 5 of your selected emojis, you win the prize for that particular drawing.

Press Play App

  • A daily drawing earns you $100.
  • A weekly drawing earns you $1,000.
  • And a monthly drawing earns you a cool $10,000. Sweet.

Matching an emoji has 1:1,700,000 (approximate) odds. So you shouldn’t quit your job to play this app. You’ll likely never win the drawing, but that’s okay. You’ll still earn points from the leaderboard.

Let’s talk about how that works.

  • For every emoji you match, you earn 1 point.
  • Every point moves you up the leaderboard.

The top 5,000 places earn cash, but the top 3 places earn the most.

If you rack in the most points at the end of the month, you earn a nice $1,500.

This is actually how I earned the $325. I matched enough emojis to climb the ranks and ended up in the top 50 spots for that month ending. Since then, more people have jumped on the bandwagon, so it’s naturally harder to climb the ladder.

You really have to play every single day, every single ticket to maximize your earnings.

The following months only brought me small prizes of $5-$20 bucks. But I’m still playing.

Redeeming your prizes

Press Play lets you withdraw using a gift card or a mailed check. If your winnings are below $25, then you NEED to choose the gift card option. But they have a ton of different cards to redeem, such as Amazon, Best Buy, Starbucks, and more.

If you earn more than $25 in a given month, you can choose to have your money in the form of a paper check. The check arrives within 7 days. The gift cards are nearly instant. They use an automated system which allows you to choose from many different retailers and redeem it right away.

They also have a time limit for redeeming your prize. You only have a few days at the start of a new month before you automatically forfeit your earnings.

Is Press Play legit?

Yes. Press Play is a legitimate app that pays.

Even though you’ll probably never match all the emojis on the drawings, you can still make a decent amount with the leaderboard payouts.

Just by playing daily you should rack up points and earn anywhere from $5-25 in a month. And it only takes less than a minute to enter your tickets.

Although some people left negative reviews stating that the app requires your personal information (SSN, address, full name, DOB, etc.), it’s US law that earnings over $600 require these details:

The developers state that this is required by law:

So basically, if you earn over $600, you need to submit all your details so the devs can send it over to the IRS. By law, this is required for a 1099 form.

And if you earn under $600, you also have to scan your driver’s license for any amount earned for age verification. As with any request for personal details, you should be cautious and do your due diligence. Just because I sent over my details doesn’t mean you should. That just may be my gullibility.

But the concerns continue:

And the developers, once again, chimed in:

Is it worth it?

Yes. For the small amount of time you need to put in to earn the cash you do, Press Play can be a nice way to get some beer money.

Although it’s completely random, you should be able to earn about $10 per month for about 30 minutes of work (total).

Is Press Play free?

Press Play Slots Referral Code

Yes, the app is completely free to use. I don’t know their specific business model, but when I emailed them, they mentioned that they’re funded by venture capital investors. So this may be how they have the enoumours of money to award to their players.

The app used to have forced ads that you’d have to watch to earn “speed passes” which let you enter tickets without waiting. But they’ve removed the time locks and video ads at this time. The only ad is an ad to play their other game- Press Play Slots.

Overall thoughts

Press Play is worth the time if you need some side income.

Although it’s not exactly a side hustle, your time is valued at about $30/h, which isn’t bad. The only problem is that everything’s random and you have no control over your work, so this is really just for fun.
